Last month Aptum quietly (ok, there was a little noise) marked its first anniversary.

It’s been a fantastic start for Aptum. A big thank you to all of those who have supported, encouraged and believed in us. The support has been overwhelming and we are very grateful.

We set out to create a better experience for clients and a better environment and culture for our team.

In a relatively short time, we have demonstrated that:

  • there is real value in having a stand alone, no conflict, specialist disputes practice;
  • it is possible to kill the timesheet in litigation and without measuring time we can create real value for clients with certainty and transparency; it is possible to create a culture within law where the focus is on outcomes and creativity without measuring or thinking about time and utilisation rates.

We have helped clients in a broad range of disputes: commercial, insolvency and tax disputes. We have acted for clients primarily in the Supreme Court, Federal Court and the AAT and we have helped clients resolve dispute without going to court.

We have proven particularly adept at helping clients with disputes that have been ongoing for some time, intransigent and drifting. We have demonstrated the value in thinking beyond sunk costs and providing value by applying a fresh, independent mind and mapping a clear course to resolution.

It’s already ingrained in our culture to always ask why and to look for better, more effective ways to help clients resolve disputes. We have invested heavily in adapting technology solutions from outside of the law and we have lots more to come on that front – stay tuned!

It’s been a great year. Our belief that we can create a better experience for clients and team members has not wavered. While we are pleased at the value we have delivered for clients in our first year and the culture we have created, we have lots more to do and we are excited about the challenges that lie ahead.

Reach out if you would like to hear more about what we have done and the changes we are making.
