A list of legal professionals in Australia – Rising Stars – who demonstrate “leadership and achievement in the early stages of their careers” was published today by Australasian Lawyer.

Aptum’s David Adason has been named as a 2024 Rising Star. The award, open to lawyers aged 35 or under, recognises 73 legal professionals selected from a nationwide pool of talent from international corporations to boutiques.

To be recognised, nominees were evaluated on performance and achievements over the past 12-18 months, focusing on client service, business innovation, and made broader contributions to the legal industry.

This is David’s second nomination as a Rising Star, having also been recognised in 2022.

David has played a key leadership role in several significant results for Aptum’s clients over the past 12 months, both commercial and tax, including multiple matters where a client sought Aptum’s services midway through a complex dispute.

Following his promotion to Associate Director, David has taken an increasing focus on Aptum’s strategic direction at a management level, and continues to evolve the firm’s award-winning litigation model. A leader in the legal innovation space, David was a speaker at the Sydney 2023 Legal Innovation & Tech Fest.

“By blending legal skills with a passion for technology, Adason has created a unique role,” wrote Australasian Lawyer following an interview with David. “As an associate director, he offers clients advice on business and tax issues while also devising strategic initiatives to enhance Aptum’s operations…His contribution has enabled the rest of the firm’s lawyers to be more efficient.”

Nigel Evans, Aptum’s Managing Director, said, “David has demonstrated that he is at the forefront of thinking in the law, constantly applying technologies and processes outside of the law to improve the rigour, clarity and accountability behind the way we practice. He has enormous potential to make a meaningful impact with his career the law.”

David is integral to Aptum’s commitment to building a genuinely different litigation model that provides for better client experiences and outcomes in the Australian market, and equally, to sharpen his legal skills on the harder, more complex end of commercial and tax litigation and disputes that Aptum is servicing.

Looking ahead, David said, “Commercial litigation is only becoming more and more complex, with disruptive technologies, changing consumer behaviours and an increasing number of cross-border transaction and disputes. Commercial litigators need to adapt to these shifts and develop expertise in emerging area of law, and that’s something that excites me about the challenge going forward.”
